Текущие события1. China Manufacturing Is Evolving
China remains one of the world’s major manufacturing hubs, but its manufacturing landscape is changing. In 2026, export demand remains important, while technology-intensive and specialized industries are becoming increasingly significant.
For global buyers, the key question is no longer simply whether to source from China. A more practical question is which Chinese manufacturer has the right production capability, technical expertise, product quality, and export experience for a specific application and market.
2. Manufacturing Activity Shows a Mixed Picture
China’s August 2026 manufacturing PMI was 49.8, up 0.6 percentage points from July. The production index was 50.4 and the new orders index was 50.6. Performance also differed by company size: large enterprises recorded 50.6, compared with 49.4 for medium-sized enterprises and 47.9 for small enterprises.
For international buyers, this suggests that the Chinese manufacturing sector should not be viewed as a single, uniform market. Individual suppliers can differ significantly in production capacity, technical expertise, quality systems, and export readiness.
3. Export Demand Remains Strong
China’s export performance continues to support its manufacturing ecosystem. In August 2026, exports increased by 25% year on year in U.S. dollar terms. From January to August, exports of mechanical and electrical products increased by 21.9% year on year in RMB terms.
This broad manufacturing ecosystem covers laboratory equipment, pharmaceutical equipment, industrial machinery, electrical and electronic products, and specialized components. For global buyers, this means there is a wide range of potential suppliers across different technical and application requirements.
4. Technology Is Strengthening China’s Manufacturing Base
Technology-intensive manufacturing is becoming a more visible part of China’s export structure. Semiconductor and other technology-related products have shown strong export growth in 2026.
This does not mean every Chinese manufacturer is a high-tech supplier. Instead, it highlights the growing range of specialized manufacturers available to international buyers. Supplier selection should therefore focus on whether a manufacturer has the technical and production capabilities required for the specific product.
5. What Does This Mean for Global Sourcing?
China’s manufacturing advantage is not limited to production cost. Its broad industrial ecosystem gives buyers access to manufacturers with different levels of specialization, production scale, and technical capability.
At the same time, a larger supplier pool makes supplier evaluation more important. Buyers need to compare manufacturers based on product specifications, manufacturing capability, quality, technical documentation, applications, and export experience—not price alone.

Part 1 explains why China manufacturing remains relevant to global buyers. Part 2 focuses on a more practical question: how should international buyers evaluate Chinese manufacturers before moving forward with a sourcing project?
